Why Runners Easily Catch Cold

We know exercise is good to your health but most runners admit after intensive training they easily catch a cold. It is the irony of running, the longer you run the more likely you will get a cold. Personally, after my first marathon I fell sick for two weeks.

The reason is exercise stimulates your body to release steroids in this case testosterone. Too much testosterone impairs your immune system. If your immune system is impaired even fighting simple viral infection becomes a chore.

A report on Reuters claims handwashing is more useful than drugs in viral control. Quoting a report by British Medical Journal, the most effective way to prevent against viral infection is not drugs, isolation, quarantine and social distancing but handwashing.

To prevent infection every runner should remember to wash his hands especially after meeting and greeting people.
