Welcome to today highlights in sporting history. This was a day when the old Soviet Union said, to hell with the rest of the world and decided to reinvent time. In 1923 USSR adopted an experimental calendar, with 5-day “weeks”. Like many Soviet ideas, it failed.

In 1883, New York Atheletic Club  organizes 1st American cross-country championship race.

In1956, Holland & Spain withdraw from Olympics, protest Soviets in Hungary

 In 1977, 1st Emmy Sports Award presentationThe Sports Emmys are presented for excellence in sports programming. Winners included golf announcer Jack Whitaker, and CBS’s The NFL Today.

In 1993,  Evander Holyfield beats Riddick Bowe in 12 for heavyweigt boxing title.
