Welcome to today in sporting History. Its a public holiday in Kenya so I dont have to go to work. I will enjoy myself jogging in the afternoon and later visiting my 82 year old grandfather. I will share with him the story of 98 year Old Dimitrion, who today in 1976 defied age and became the oldest man to run a marathon. Age is nothing but a number.

Today In 1857, In the land of pioneers American Chess Association was formed in New York City. Most people cant agree about the origin of the game but it is generally accepted the game appeared in India in 600AD.

Today in 1892, It was a sad day in sporting world when entire Hong Kong national cricket team, died in a shipwreck off Taiwan Coast.

Today in 1908, Baseball Writers Association was formed. In the land of rising wealth it was an attempt by the writers to protect their financial rights. Their philosophy must have been “Together we stand divided we fall”

Today in 1976,  Greece’s 98 year-old Dimitrion Yordanidis, is oldest man to compete in a marathon; he finishes in 7hrs :33 mins.
