In 1921, the World Series was broadcast on radio for the first time. (By series’ end, the New York Giants had beaten the New York Yankees 5-3 in the best-of-nine contest.)

In 1955, The Brooklyn Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees, 2-0, in the final game of the World Series to win their first and only championship.

In 1993, Michael Jordan stunned the sports world by announcing his retirement from the game of basketball and his desire to try baseball.

In 1997, Annika Sorenstam wins LPGA CoreStates Betsy King Classic
